We are looking to publish the best novel/short story collection written this year.

SUBMIT

Please submit your entire manuscript via Submittable. The selected author will receive a ten thousand dollar ($10,000) advance on royalties and a contract to publish with UNO Press. The work does not have to be regionally focused. UNO Press is based at the University of New Orleans and distributed by Hopkins Fulfillment Services. There is no word limit. There is no limit on subjects covered. Works of fiction (novels and short story collections) only.

The contest is open to all authors from around the world, regardless of publishing history.

Submission fee: $28.00.

OUR PROCESS

We collect submissions from March 15 to August 31, deciding on 15-20 finalists. The finalists are read by students from The Publishing Laboratory in the fall of 2020, and one is chosen to become a book. The class will focus on making the book a critical and commercial success upon its release in the fall of 2021.

Abram Shalom Himelstein is the editor-in-chief at UNO Press.

TIMELINE

The press will winnow the field in late September, and participants of the publishing institute will decide on the book at the end of November.

WRITE. EDIT. PUBLISH.

The selected manuscript will be promoted by The Publishing Laboratory at the University of New Orleans, an institute that seeks to bring innovative publicity and broad distribution to authors. Hopefully the book becomes a hit. Either way, the book will have had a real chance and push toward the crowded marketplace.
